A. This is something else I left for readers to decide in their own stories.
Q. What is a “matryoshka”?
A. A matryoshka is a traditional Russian doll with wooden people that overlap each other. The matryoshka in the story Fangsong is the smallest piece in the center of the doll.
Q.
What the world happened at the end of
Fangsong?
A. Steeljaw possessed Slashpaw into tackling William, making him drop the matryoshka rather than letting him give it to the “invincible” Aura. Then with the matryoshka’s power broken, Steeljaw was able to escape and Tungulria could do nothing to contain him. He killed William and then died, his mission complete. Akna and the pups ran off to escape Steeljaw, and Tungulria returned to roaming the tundra as he used to do before the matryoshka.

Q. Why are there three “Fangsong”s?
There is the Fang’s Song, an extremely high-pitch sound that calls power from the matryoshka. Fangsong the demon, otherwise known as Tungulria, adopted the name “Fangsong” to protect his birth name. When William became possessed by Tungulria he chose to be called Fangsong since that was the first wolf name that came to mind.
Q. Where did Akna go at the end of Fangsong?
A. That is something else I left to my readers.
Q. What is the symbol on William’s cheek?
A. That is the “matryoshka symbol,” or more accurately “Fangsong’s symbol” and it shows that Tungulria has possessed William. It is the same symbol that appears on the surface of the matryoshka.
Q. What happened to Mystic on the page showing him and
Tungulria?
A. Those are Mystic’s god-patterns that normally are hidden, but since he was really riled up the patterns appeared.
Q. What’s the other oval symbol covering the wall on
the inside of the matryoshka along with Fangsong’s symbol?
A. That symbol stands for Mystic’s presence, which would appear on a wolf’s cheek if possessed by Mystic. The symbol is also seen on Mystic’s neck. It shows that he is trying to break in to the matryoshka.
Q. Why is Tungulria/Fangsong wearing a skull in one
panel before the Raven comes to tell him Mystic is intruding?
A. He kept that skull from when he was alive, and he was
thinking of his past.
He came to take that skull from his dead lover, Amber, who
was a Siberian Husky shot by her owner when it became known she was pregnant
with Tungulria’s pups.
Q. What happened to the fox after he entered the
matryoshka?
A. If you pay attention on the
pages where William
calls power it will sometimes show the fox. However, it is unknown what happened
to him after that, as when Steeljaw
breaks free with Tungulria
the fox is nowhere to be seen.
