Character Profiles

William (Fangsong)
William was a ten year old boy on his way to Russia with his mother, Charlotte. He was given the matryoshka by a mysterious flight attendant and was taken over by the demon called Fangsong (Tungulria). Upon his arrival to Russia he was chased away into the snows and he met a pack there.
Akna
Akna is William’s wife. She gave birth to Adonta, Blueface, Kiba, and Equinox. She is a loving mother and she is extremely patient with her children. She met William while wandering, looking for a new family.
Riptooth
Riptooth is the alpha of his pack, and he rules firmly and with authority. No one dares challenge him other than Steeljaw, but Riptooth is only too ready to take the challenge. He seems to get along well with Bandit but has trouble accepting William as a part of the pack.
Bandit
Bandit is a kind wolf who has had a difficult past, his mother killed by a human for her pelt not too long ago. He accepts William as part of the family considerably quicker than anyone else. He calls Steeljaw “Oni.”
Steeljaw (Oni)
Steeljaw has a mysterious background. He fights ferociously, and once his jaws lock there’s no letting go. He seems to tolerate Bandit a little more easily than the rest of the pack, but he is tempted to challenge Riptooth for the position of alpha wolf.
Blueface
Blueface is the son of William, reserved and quiet and with a very unusual blue tinge. He is blind and his brother Equinox and his sister Kiba tease him mercilessly for it. He feels concern for Aura, having been treated similarly for his disability.
Equinox
Equinox is the son of William. Even as a pup he thinks of himself as alpha, acting like Riptooth did when he was the leader of his pack. He teases Blueface for his blindness and fights often with Kiba.
Kiba
Kiba is the daughter of William.
Kiba is quite aggressive and she fights a lot with
Equinox. She joins Equinox in teasing
Blueface, however. She is completely white just
like William and
Lapin.
Adonta
Adonta is the daughter of William. She is quieter and she does not take advantage of Blueface’s blindness. Unlike her siblings Equinox and Kiba. She has a good relaionship with her father.
Kizu
Kizu is the son of Blueface and Aura. As he appears for only a short time, not much is known about him, but he has a way of giving news with his cute little grin. He has one star mark like his mother and the blue tinge of his father.
Aura
Aura is the daughter of Mystic and Faisan. She has her father’s wings and simpler star marks on her face while having the fluffy downward cheek ruff like her mother.
Slashpaw
Slashpaw is the alpha of his pack. He encountered William during an extreme famine. He is not afraid to even kill other wolves if that it what it takes to feed his pack. He rules his pack with authority and tends to pick on Caneton.
Lapin
Lapin is a wolf with a scary reputation: he likes to eat puppies. He belongs to the Slashpaw pack and he is very skilled in hunting his own kind. He is completely white like William.
Faisan
Faisan is the mother of Aura and the alpha female of the Slashpaw pack. She doesn’t like to hunt when it comes to hunting wolves, so she just stays to the side and out of the way. She tends to be dreamy and she doesn’t seem to realize that Lapin is potentially dangerous to her pup.
Tungulria
(Fangsong)
Tungulria, more commonly called “Fangsong,” is a wolf who held such hatred in his soul that he could not pass on. He became a demon and was trapped within the matryoshka. He possess William to try to avenge whoever wronged him, slowly taking over William’s body.
Magnalucius
(Mystic)
Mystic has an impressive birth name, and with good reason. He could not die, as he was so focused on his goal. He became the highest class demon and achieved god status, making him a master of the art of illusions and giving him wings. He seems to dislike Tungulria.
Pshay
Pshay is the master wolf hunter of the Slashpaw pack. He has Siberian Husky patterns, suggesting his family history. He is extremely fast and agile.
Caneton
Caneton is the submissive one of the Slashpaw pack. He does everything that is asked of him but receives little or no privileges. He is mostly ignored by the rest of the pack.
The Raven of Death
The Raven belongs to Tungulria. Why he obeys Tungulria is unknown, but when he reaches full size he becomes quite a fearsome figure. He is slightly afraid of Mystic. The Raven’s major purpose is to transfer wolves’ souls into the matryoshka rather than allowing them to die. He is apparently told in fantasy tales to scare little ones out of doing things they are not supposed to do.
The Fox
The fox is a thief who becomes trapped in the matryoshka as punishment for attempting to steal it. He only appears in the story for a short time.
The Matryoshka
The matryoshka is a Russian doll that William obtained from a mysterious flight
attendant. It houses Tungulria and other wolves
that are put in there by the Raven of Death.
Charlotte
Charlotte is William’s mother, who came with him to Russia. Not realizing it was her son, at first sight of the wolf in her house she shooed him out into the cold tundra. Her profession is studying wolf behavior.
Robert
Robert becomes William’s stepfather after he marries Charlotte. Unfortunately he does not attempt to form a good relationship with William. He owns a dog sled team and he competes in the Iditarod.
Amber
Amber does not appear in neither Blueface or Fangsong, but in Howl, a separate book about Tungulria’s life before becoming a demon. She is a Siberian Husky who falls in love with Tungulria and becomes pregnant. Unfortunately her owner is a seriously anti-wolf and he kills her on the spot, even going as far as to seek out Tungulria to wreak his revenge.
